GRÓTTUVITI

Grótta Lighthouse, (Gróttuviti in Icelandic), is a lighthouse in Iceland.
It is located on the island of Grótta, in the municipality of Seltjarnarnes, outside Reykjavik.

This is where the sound has been recorded

Many interesting sounds in this area. The lighthouse can only be reached through a narrow arm of land that is certainly barely passable at high tide.

Apart from the fact that it is Icelandic, the lighthouse itself is not the most interesting thing on this islet.
It is when you listen over the low wall at the bottom that you discover what the Atlantic Ocean has to offer.

In an arrhythmic musicality, the melody of the gentle waves that slip between the seaweed-covered rocks is suddenly broken by the sudden intrusion of a larger sister that hits the stone like a drum.

And in the midst of these elements, both calm and raging, ducks quietly live their lives, totally accustomed as they are to this erratic weather.

One of the difficulties encountered was finding a stable spot to put the recorder. At the same time well placed to be able to pay homage as much as possible to this natural orchestration, but also far from the projections which it was impossible to anticipate because the swell was so unpredictable.

The location allowed me to capture the phase effect created by the waves breaking on either side of the islet.

Once past the low wall, you have to make your way between the slippery rocks covered in algae.

The hardest part was finding the ideal location for the recorder. The wind was fairly calm for most of the recording.

Overall rarity:

★★★☆☆

Intermediate level for recording. No great difficulties, but nevertheless, finding the right location takes time.
